THE DERBY was first run in Jamaica in 1921 and was won by a horse called BUCK DANCER.   Since its inaugural running all Breeders, Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Grooms not only have as their sole aim the winnerís share of the $8 million purse of $4 million, but mostly the Prestige, the Pageantry, the Tradition and the Glory that comes from winning or competing in the greatest Classic in any horseracing jurisdiction in the world, THE DERBY.  Added to that dream, is the fact that a thoroughbred has ONLY ONE chance in its racing career to compete in THE DERBY.
