News News Releases 13/04/10 The BIGGA Jamaica Oaks RACEDAY
THE 2010 BIGGA JAMAICA OAKS RACEDAY was launched at the Courtleigh Hotel and Suites in New Kingston on April 13, 2010. The raceday is scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2010.
Mrs. Karen Rosen (Group Marketing Manager) spoke on behalf of the sponsor Wisynco Group, while Mr. Raphael Gordon (Deputy Chairman), Mr. Christopher Armond, (Director of Marketing & Promotions) and Mr. Denzil Miller Jr. (Racing Secretary), spoke on behalf of the promoter, Caymanas Track Limited.
The 71st running of The Jamaica Oaks (GR.IR) boasts a total purse of $3.3M, inclusive of $700,000 donated by the sponsor BIGGA. The race is for Native-Bred 3-Y-O Fillies, and they will compete over 2000 Metres.
An additional $300,000 will also be divided and added to the purses of six (6) other races on the card which will bring the total contribution to purses to $1M.
The (BIGGA) Jamaica Oaks (GR.IR) as is customary, will be run in honour of Mrs. Hilma Veira, former General Manager of the Jamaica Racing Commission and Hall of Famer, who dedicated her talents and skills to the Sport of Kings for more than a quarter of a century.
After the season's first classic on April 5, it is back to the drawing board for some, and high hopes for others. There is also a very interesting situation on the horizon for racing fans, as a rivalry between the nation's top two Native-Bred 3-Y-O fillies will continue in the 71st running of the BIGGA JAMAICA OAKS.
These outstanding Fillies are Triple Crown contender ALFOUZIA (owned by Farasfhal Farms, trained by Rowan Mathie) and runner up in the 1000 Guineas GABIWITZO (owned by Mr. Sherman Clachar, trained by Fitznahum Williams).
