THE 2009 HALL OF FAME RACEDAY

 

THE 2009 HALL-OF-FAME RACEDAY was launched at the Jamaica Racing Commission, 8 Winchester Road, Kingston on Thursday, May 28, 2009.

Rudolph Muir (Chairman, JRC) and Ruth-Ann Smith Sutherland (General Manager, JRC) spoke on behalf of the sponsor Jamaica Racing Commission, while Mr. Denzil Miller Jr. (Racing Secretary) gave the racing details on behalf of the promoter, Caymanas Track Limited.

 

THE 2009 HALL OF FAME DAY is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Caymanas Park.

 

The Feature Race will be the 14th running of THE HALL OF FAME STAKES TROPHY (GR.II) for Open Allowance Horses and they will compete over 1200 metres for a Total Purse of $700,000 of which $50,000 is donated by the Regulators of Thoroughbred Racing; the Jamaica Racing Commission.

 

The Top Contenders are:

 

Commander Zero          English Storm      Hail the Genius              Romez

Racing Machine            Rigmarole            Aguila                            Prime Minister

Shanghai Pass              The Guardian      Blue Magic                    Good Citizen

Little Wasp                     Triple Account     Hombre

                  

The Secondary Features will be run in Honour of The Late Ren Gonsalves former Trainer & Chairman of Jamaica Racing Commission and Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission over 2000 metres for the Overnight Allowance Horses, and Leslie McRae former Handicapper over 1100 metres for 3-year-old Maidens.

 

The remaining eight (8) races will be named in honour of Hall of Fame Inductees:

 

Blumenthal                    - Horse-of-the-year 1998 & 1999

 Melvin 'Babu' Chin     -Bookmaker and Champion Owner 1975

 War Zone                     -Horse-of-the-year 1996

 The Medic                     -Champion Sire

 Distinctly Native            -Outstanding racehorse and Broodmare (A King is Born and   Distinctly Irish)

 

 Charles Hussey O.D.    -Champion Jockey 2001, 1998, 1977, 1976

 Cecil Chambers            -Champion Groom

 Kenneth Mattis O.D.     -Champion Trainer 1979, 1980, 1983, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1990
